Channel Letter Signage in Singapore
Channel letters are hollow letters: aluminium (or stainless) returns, an acrylic or aluminium face, and LED modules inside. They are the default night-readable shopfront in Singapore because each letter is a lamp, not a printed sheet in a box.
We form returns in-house, populate modules to the stroke width, and leave a service path to the driver. Thin script logos that cannot fit a module are flagged on the drawing — we will not ship letters that look patchy at night.
Front-lit, back-lit and halo-lit
Front-lit: translucent acrylic face, opaque returns, light out of the face. Best for roads and HDB fronts where you need the name itself to glow.
Back-lit / halo-lit: opaque face, light out of the rear onto the wall. Needs a flat, preferably dark fascia and even standoffs. Clinics, boutiques and offices use this when they want a quieter night look.
Combination (face + halo) is possible on deeper returns but draws more power and needs thicker strokes. We only spec it when the logo can take it.
Returns, faces and modules
Return depth is commonly 50–80 mm for front-lit retail letters; halo letters may sit shallower or on standoffs. Faces are typically 3–5 mm acrylic, formed or flat, with vinyl or spray to brand colour on the returns.
LED modules are 12 V or 24 V, outdoor IP65, spaced so the face is even — you should not see dots. Power supplies are constant-voltage units in an accessible box, not taped inside a letter. Wiring between letters runs in the backing cassette or a concealed aluminium raceway.
What kills channel letters here
Unsealed faces in monsoon rain, indoor modules used outdoors, drivers with no ventilation, and letters silicone-fixed to a crumbling ACM cassette. We spec gaskets, outdoor modules, ventilated driver boxes and mechanical fixings. Repair work on other people’s letters usually starts with one of those four.

How small can a channel letter be?
Stroke width has to fit the module. Below about 60–80 mm stroke we often switch to solid acrylic face-lit sheet or a mini-letter indoor build instead of a true channel.
Do channel letters need a backing panel?
On most shopfronts, yes — an ACM or aluminium cassette keeps spacing, hides wiring and gives the landlord a single object to approve. Individual stud-mounted letters are for clean indoor walls.
What is the lead time?
Typically 2–4 weeks after drawing approval, plus landlord time if the mall must stamp the elevation.
Can you convert my lightbox to channel letters?
Often yes if the existing cassette and power are sound. We survey before promising — a rotten box is replaced, not reused.
